The arrival of Hollywood icons Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem at the VU Clubhouse last Saturday sent the excitement levels of guests through the Richter scale.

Guests in the VU Clubhouse had already enjoyed the company of England hooker, Lee Mears, who was full of positive stories from the England camp having spent a few days coaching the hookers; and Welsh Legend, Jonathan Davies, hungover from from celebrations of Wales’ demolition of France the night before  was full of joie de vivre! Paul “The Judge” Rendall also mingled with guests, glass of bubbly in hand rather than the usual pint.

There was massive anticipation in the Clubhouse and rugby banter flowed between the English and irish guests, washed down by gallons of the black stuff. Then Cruz and Bardem strolled into the Clubhouse, through the garden and headed for the bar at the rear. I could see the “is it or isnt it” moments on guests faces and the “wow” on realising that it was indeed film stars in the Clubhouse.

Excited guests left for the game. The game was immense! Ireland shoving England off the ball at scrum time, the Rob Kearney try and the brilliance of the Danny Care try, not to forget the rock solid defence on both sides was a fitting finale to a glorious 6 Nations Rugby weekend. Post match, guests enjoyed rubbing shoulders with England players, Lee Dickson, Dave Attwood and Alex Goode with Jeremy Guscott and Shane Byrne making cameo appearances.

Bring on the Welsh in two weeks time!
