Rob played for England rugby 7's for 10 years as centre He has scored 26 tries in 29 tournaments. They include one that helped England to beat France 29-12 in the Cup final in Dubai in December 2011. Rob has recently re-signed for Yorkshire Carnegie in 2013 on an 18 month contract and became a regular in the first team, playing a key role in their run up to the Play Offs and British and Irish Cup Final. See what he had to say when we caught up with him last year just after he retired from 7's.
How do you like to spend time after training and rugby matches?
Nature of 7’s means that your pretty knackered in-between it so sleep feature heavily and some guys they want a bit iPod action calculate that with the 5000 calories I’ve just burnt off I’m entitled to a few muffins.
If you were stranded on a desert island who would be the worst team mate past or present to be with and why?
Dan Norton, known as “The Wasp” because he is so annoying and never leaves you alone. He was once my room mate and after that I specifically asked never to be again!
Best city you have toured and played rugby in?
We had a good relationship Wellington – New Zealand the fact we won there twice probably helps, for me the waterside location and coffee shop location is pretty key for any rugby player.
Most memorable match you have played in?
Wellington again in the final when we were 0-19 down and then came back to winning 21-19 agaist New Zealand with pretty much everyone despising us. That was fun, interesting and lots of learning.
When you were young did you have a role model if so who was it?
Will have to say Victor Ubogu, not only did he make it in rugby but also a successful business man, plus he is stood next to me aswell!
Earliest Rugby memory?
My best childhood rugby memory, walking upstairs to see my mother eating M&M’s off one of the 1st team rugby players stomach then looking over and seeing my Dad doing the same to one of the female rugby players. Pretty much raised in a rugby club and seeing things I shouldn't of seen at the age of 8.
What’s is your favorite meal?
Im going to sound so Northern here but a good Yorkshire Steak with some Yorkshire Veg and a nice big Yorkshire pudding.
Do you have a dream car if so what is it?
Just started looking at cars with the capacity of boot being the highlight so something like the Kia Sorento.
If you could trade places with any other person for a week, famous or not famous, living or dead, real or fictional, who would it be?
That’s easy…. SUPERMAN.
Worst injury?
Had a couple of knee ops in the past but C’est la vie
What is your best joke?
How do you keep a Moron in suspense…. <Long Pause……………..>
